What would you do if you saw one of the engines of the plane you were on plummet through the sky towards the ground below? Perhaps you would turn to a fellow passenger to see if you were imagining things: |
UPDATE: Not to worry, people–the engine was SUPPOSED to detach! According to airline execs, the plane had “done what it was supposed to do if a foreign object was sucked in and caused dangerous vibrations that might damage the wing: shear off its engine.” So everybody can relax now. I know I will.
“I heard this huge bang, and he said, ‘That’s our engine that’s just fallen off.’ I couldn’t believe it. He had to repeat it to me…” (From CNN)
The plane in question was a Nationwide Airline plane that departed from Cape Town, South Africa. When the right engine of the plane separated from the wing, the aircraft made an emergency landing. None of the 100 passengers was injured.
