Just in case you’ll be flying Russia’s Aeroflot Airlines anytime soon, I thought I’d help you out with some “do’s” and “don’ts” from their website. Look for them in a handy section called “Rules of Passenger Conduct”. DON’T: “Create situations endangering flight safety or the life, health and dignity of other passengers and also of the airline personnel, to permit her- or himself any verbal or physical insult toward them.” DO: “In the event that her or his life, health, honour or personal dignity is in danger, to approach airline employees and demand protection.” Wish I could “demand protection” on some of the domestic flights I’ve taken recently — I’ve had numerous insults to my dignity, in the form of fees for checked luggage, surly flight attendants, and…well, you see what I mean. |

Aeroflot’s domestic service is just about as bare-boned as any I’ve ever seen in the civilized world, leaving me with the impression that Russia is just as uncivilized as, say, Mexico, but that would be a great insult to Mexican hospitality, one that Mexico is actually good at. The describe Aeroflot’s employees as “surly’ is being generous!
On a “bargain” flight last year, I had to pay twice the cost of the ticket to check an extra piece of luggage that was no bigger than the first. Some bargain, huh? The ticket agent, nor the airline website could explain where the extra fees were explained, or where the actual costs could be found prior to checking in at the airport. I think they saw me coming! I think I’ll take the train next time I need to get to Moscow to get an international flight out of the former worker’s paradise!
