Travel Advice: “It’s all about planning your escape!”

The above words come from a Bloomingdale’s email – and yes, it does have to do with travel, though admittedly, it’s a stretch.

Bloomie’s, you see, is advertising vacation clothing – and this latest collection of theirs is called “chic, stylish and effortlessly versatile”. Sounds like a description of yours truly.

They do have some pretty clothes, though I cannot vouch for their effortless versatility-ish-ness – you’ll have to see for yourself, here – oh, and don’t miss the “Silk Romper” for $380.  Sheesh – we advertise flights for less than that.

That Killer Economy of Ours: Goodbye, Free Hotel Shampoo Bottles

Read a VERY disturbing report today…Travelista Christopher Elliott says hotels are trying to save money, so they’re cutting back on all those things like little bottles of shampoo or little bottles of lotion – you know, the stuff that makes you go, “Oooh, nice place!”

Well, that’s what I’d always say.

But hold on, it gets worse – places that serve free breakfast may not be doing that much longer, either. Or, you’ll find less variety (farewell, sausage links).

This saddens me. Oh, not that I’ll notice. I don’t think Motel 6 is real big on a lot of this stuff anyway.

Starting next month, American Airlines will start using “stemmed tulip-shaped globes” – wineglasses – on its 777 and 767-200 planes. And not only will they be all nice and tulip-y, but they will be bigger!

Why are they doing this? So passengers can “more easily swirl the wine and enjoy its aromas”. But of course. And maybe put more of that tasty swirly stuff in the glass.

Let’s see, what else? Oh, yes, this is only for…first class passengers. Well, that lets me out. Grrr.

Cheap Chic: Motel 6 to become Motel Sexy?

Well, maybe not exactly sexy…but cooler, definitely cooler.

According to an article in USA Today, the chain for the cheap is getting a makeover: yes, new bedspreads. Alright, there’s more.

We are talking about 32-inch flat-screen TVs, granite countertops and those big sinks that sort of sit on top of the counter and are a pain to clean (which is, of course, why I don’t have one).

But wait, there’s even more (if you keep on reading)…
